Art exhibitions held marking National Day (September 03, 2004)

'Mother' Legacy' by Dinh Ru.
An exhibition of around 100 paintings and statues of 32 artists who won the State’s Prize on Literature and Art in 2001 is on display from September 2-10 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi on the 59th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day (September 2).

Also on the occasion, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, in co-ordination with the Hung Yen provincial museum organised a display entitled ‘Art Works on Resistance War and National Defence’.

The show introduced 53 oil, lacquer and sketch paintings of artists of different generations of anti- French and anti-US wars period.

Among those being displayed are some works of famous painters such as To Ngoc Van, Tran Van Can, Diep Minh Chau and Bui Xuan Phai.

In the meantime, Ho Chi Minh City is now busy with various exhibitions to celebrate the National Day.

The sixth regional fine arts award exhibition opened on August 28 at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum in Ho Chi Minh City. This is the annual activity of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association on the National Day. This year’s exhibition sees a bigger number of entries with 142 paintings and 38 statues. The wooden statue named ‘Mother’s Legacy’ (photo) by painter Dinh Ru won the A prize.

Also at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, an exhibition of works created from the fine arts camp opened on August 27. Since the beginning of the year, the city’s fine arts association has organised eight painting and sculpture camps for 200 members in Da Lat, Lam Dong, Quang Tri, Ninh Thuan, An Giang and Ho Chi Minh City. The exhibition displays 174 new paintings and sculptural works.
