Biggest national fine arts exhibition on army to open (November 24, 2004)

The national fine arts exhibition focusing on the armed forces, the revolutionary war and the national construction and defence due to be opened next month and will be the biggest display of its kind so far. Director of the Vietnam Military History Museum, Colonel Le Ma Luong, head of the organising board said about comments.

Colonel Ma Luong said the five year long preparation work on the theme had attracted the participation of various painters and sculptors both professional and amateur from in and outside the army. Apart from those from big cities such as Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, artists from remote areas such as in the Central Highlands, the border and island areas also sent their works to the exhibition.

The exhibition, therefore, will not only be successful in the number of the entries but also the quality of art work which, according to the colonel, remain close to the theme but diverse in ways of expression.

There are even large size paintings using sustainable material. This shows that the artists paid attention to the them though it’s not easy at all.

Speaking further about activities prepared for the exhibition, Mr Ma said, they had organised many creation camps in Da Nang, Vung Tau and particularly in the Central Highlands region since its launch in 2001.

They had also opened exhibitions with themes relating to the issues such as special force soldiers, border guards, air defence, on Dien Bien Phu, national construction and defence in cities and provinces and gained good results.

Around 30-50 best works have been financially supported, each with approximately VND 3 million.

The Vietnam Military History Museum will also reserve part of its budget to buy some paintings, with the highest prize of between VND 5 and 6 million.
