Central highlands art exhibition opens (February 27, 2005)

A painting by Le Van.
Artists Le Van and Dam Dang Lai are introducing their 40 artworks that reflect the social life of central highlanders at an exhibition named ‘Central Highlands Spring’ in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.

Silk painting is the strength of artist Le Van as they make up half among his 20 works at the exhibition. He likes utilizes the contrast that exists between red and black to depict the simple, wild, and exciting characteristics of the region.

The themes in his paintings vary, as do the Central Highlands through ‘Dan Chim Thien Di’ (Birds Leaving Their Residence); a cheerful Central Highlands through ‘Don Ban Ngay Mua’ (Receiving Friends in Harvested Season) or ‘Dan Voi Chien Thang’ (Elephants in Victory) or an warm and friendly Central Highlands through ‘Ben Nhau’ (Together)

Installation art work entitled "Iron masks" by Dang Lai.
Unlike Le Van, 20 sculptural works of Dam Dang Lai who has just organised seven individual exhibitions in Japan, excluding his group shows, express modernist feelings on the Central Highlands. With materials like wood, bronze and iron, his works also reveal an installation style.

In particular, Dam Dang Lai has a collection of masks on hoc blades entitled ‘Nguoi Quen’ (Acquaintances). The collection shows the “face of the era”, including happiness, sadness, worry, and kind-hearted among others.

This is a painting and statue exhibition of quality in the Central Highlands to welcome the lunar New Year and also to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Buon Ma Thuot Victory (March 10, 1975).
