HCM CITY — Ten-year-old Nguyen Thi Bich Son has edged out 1,200 other contestants to win the Bright Smile, Bright Future painting contest that was held in Ha Noi and HCM City last month.
Son, from HCM City’s District 11, won a computer package and a special gift, while five runners-up each received a bicycle and other gifts.
The colouring-in competition was open to children aged between 6 and 10 in the country’s two biggest cities, and was organised by the Viet Nam Dentistry Association and Colgate-Palmolive Viet Nam.
The panel of judges also awarded consolation prizes and school supplies packages to 10 other finalists to reward them for their efforts.
The 16 children who received prizes were chosen from a shortlist of 100 entries, which all received commendations for their artistic technique and use of colour.
The contest was one of a series of activities held during the Colgate Month of Oral Health programme, which aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of proper dental care and hygiene.
Organisers said about 10,000 schoolchildren and thousands of adults took advantage of the free check-ups at major dental clinics in both cities over the last month.
