Photos of late photographers displayed (June 27, 2005)

The Vietnam Photographers’ Association and Hong Ha Photographers’ Group held an exhibition entitled ‘Photographer Quynh Son and his photos taken in the anti-French resistance war’ at the culture and information centre of Vinh city, Nghe An province.

Quynh Son whose real name is Ngo Duc Dau, born in 1911 in Quynh Son village, now Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province and died in 1972.

Since 1930s, he learnt photography and worked in Saigon. In 1936, he returned to his home village. Thanks to his art passion and citizen’s awareness before homeland, he took and archived thousands of photos about our people and armymen’s activities in the liberated areas in Nghe An in the anti-French resistance war. On every photo, there are notes about the content and time of the photo. When he was still alive, Quynh Son always had a strong belief in the struggle of the nation and thought that the photos would be useful for next generations. Before he died, he had presented the photos to Nghe An province’s Service of Culture and Information.

Photographer Quynh Son took unique photos. He is the first news photographer in Nghe An joining the anti-French resistance war.

His son, who is also a photographer, has collected his father’s works for publication. His work has been given assistance from the authorities and agencies in Nghe An province. The photos have shown the image of Vietnam in the anti-French resistance war through activities of production, military practice, ect, revealing his art labour and passion for the homeland.
