Hue An gallery – meeting place of contemporary fine art styles (June 24, 2005)

A female painter’s oil paintings exhibition entitled ‘The Portraits of Asia’ was opened at Hue An Gallery at 38A Tran Phu street, Hanoi on June 18. This is the inaugural exhibition for poet Giang Van’s own gallery in the hope of introducing art works of high value.

The owner of the gallery is a woman who seems never to have a concept of ....’doing business’. She is Giang Van, a famous modern poet. It is no longer rare for poets to do business, but it is still uncommon for a female poet to work as an organiser for an fine art exhibition.

The name of her daughter is chosen for the gallery, Hue An which is aimed at displaying, introducing, and creating chances for exchanging and discussing for artists of different styles.

Ms Giang Van said that at her gallery, there would be no imitation paintings. The gallery debut with the exhibition of Y Nhi paintings has shown her criteria for art.

The gallery located in the cross-road of Dien Bien Phu road and Tran Phu road is a French architecture house. The gallery is not colorful but focuses on providing a natural background for the development of art. It is expected that every two months, Hue An gallery will introduce one new artist.

Following Y Nhi’s exhibition is the exhibition of painter Phuong Vi Manh in early Julywho is seen as a painter with strong personality .

These selections are one of the attractive art activities which has shown the first steps of Hue An gallery on the road for a Vietnamese art.

Painter Dinh Y Nhi:

Born in 1967 in Hanoi and graduated from the National Fine Arts College in 1991, female painter Dinh Y Nhi is considered one of the top modern painters in Vietnam’s contemporary fine arts. Her paintings have been displayed in many countries such as France, the US, Germany, Japan and ASEAN countries.

She is well known for her white and black paintings with a simple and clear style permeated with many feelings and ideas. The leitmotif in her paintings is people, seen from every angle, including their individual mood, people in their community, and people in different situations in society and so on. Following its opening, Hue An gallery wants to introduce viewers to the new works by Dinh Y Nhi. Under the title ‘The Portraits of Asia’ these oil paintings reflect the fundamental richness and complications of human life. The unrealistic portraits provide symbolic and metaphoric features. The skilful painting techniques help to control the emotion. The works on display this time are among a series revealing her exploration and self—renovation in order to extricate herself from her old style. However, we think that this exhibition is a real chance for Dinh Y Nhi to achieve her goal.
