Diversity at the National Fine Arts Exhibition 2005 (November 27, 2005)

The entry of 2,979 art works by 2,145 artists shows the great concern of the fine art circle for this year’s National Fine Arts Exhibition and promises a diverse display, a result of the Vietnam’s fine art circle during the five years of the 21st century.

The National Fine Arts Exhibition 2005 will be held from December 9, 2005 to January 2, 2006 at the Vietnam Centre for Culture and Art Exhibition, at No 2 Hoa Lu, Hanoi. On display will be 739 selected paintings, drawings, and sculptures of 651 artists from 50 cities and provinces, including eight artists who are 80 years of age and older and the youngest, who is 19 years of age.

According to the organisers, the National Fine Arts Exhibition 2005 reflects an overview of the Vietnam’s fine arts for the past five years, resulting from of a period of creation with remarkably qualitative and active movement.

Artists have come closer to the language of contemporary painting, integrated themselves further with the fine arts in the region as well as in the world. The blossom of creative works, particularly in young artists, show a great aspiration for creativity.

The Vietnam fine arts has never seen such a diversity in styles and the number of talents like that at this exhibition. Participated works show less imitation and illustration.

The responsibility of each citizen, and each artist seen in many works has contributed to the diversity of the National Fine Arts Exhibition 2005.

In the renovation of creation and fine arts management, this year’s exhibition sees many changes organisationally as compared with the previous ones. The organisers have invited overseas Vietnamese painters and those not from the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. This also makes the more number of participants and entries greater as compared the previous years.

In addition , artists can use any media and language in their art works. Because there is not enough space, the art of installation and performance is not be seen at the exhibition. However, the Department of Fine arts will organise a festival for this new kind of art in early next year.
