Representatives of the publishing and distribution sector of Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam have gathered at a Vientiane conference in anticipation of the ASEAN Information and Culture Committee's conference on publishing folk literary works.
The conference was held within the programme to publish and distribute folk literary works of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) passed by Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand in 1995.
The December 11-12 conference stressed the need to collect folk literary works, including funny stories, tales, folk songs, sayings, and verses.
Participants agreed to publish books on the four topics next year. Each category will have five to six titles making up 150-page books.
They said that the publishing and distribution of folk literary works are intended to preserve the national cultural heritages of ASEAN member countries.
