HCM CITY — If Hana Dang could open a literary salon, she would. But the sentimental art lover has settled for the Golden Lotus Gallery, a place where anyone can be an artist.
"During the long struggle of life, sometimes you need a place where you can indulge in the mysterious world of colours and images, share your ideas about the beauty of art, or just reflect upon your life. Our Golden Lotus Gallery is set up in that endeavour," she said.
The lotus flower also symbolises a presence of Vietnamese life, both physically and spiritually – the inspiration behind the cosy feel of her gallery.
The opening last Wednesday, at Ly Tu Trong Street in HCM City, showcased 25 works in a wide range of Vietnamese styles. Bui Huu Hung, a master of modern lacquer techniques will be displayed, as will the charming femininity displayed in oil paintings by Dieu Thuy.
Le Vuong is renowned for his highly polished technique and his distinctively European style of painting, but the subject matter he chooses for his canvasses indicate the love of his country.
Dinh Quan’s work is vibrant and draped in zen philosophy. He paints "endless nights, exciting dreams and poetic thoughts," art critic Thai Ba Van said.
The paintings of Thanh Chuong make a strong impression on viewers because of their combination of humorous folk art with a Western drawing technique.
"I love to bring together a miniature exhibition of Vietnamese contemporary art, which magically combines the Oriental spirit and modern art knowledge," said Hana Dang.
Apart from the collection on display, the gallery’s website will show many more artworks as of April. — VNS
