Award-winning film to be shown nationwide (Mar 27, 2003)

Dao Ba Son an Kim Khanh in the 'Heaven's Net.'

‘Heaven’s Net’ (screenplay by Nguyen Manh Tuan, director Phi Tien Son, Feature Film Studio 1) was made from last August to the end of 2002.

Director Phi Tien Son said the film was censored quickly, adding a censor even asked me why I didn’t make it stronger. I was very surprised.” To Son, 'Heaven’s Net’ was already strong enough against corruption in comparison with a series of the previous Vietnamese films with the same subject. Before, anti-corruption films were always about certain vice directors or vice secretaries of Party cells. These films end with the “victory” over corruption, making it seem easy to fight corruption but ‘Heaven’s Net’ is not the same.

Artist of Merit Thanh Tri plays the role of Hai Phan, creating boldness and sharpness for the theme highlighted in the film. Although it is not clear what he does, he must be a high-level official because he controls a provincial people’s committee chairman, general director of AFF bank and general director of Manaco Company.

‘Heaven’s Net’ ends but Hai Phan still exists. The fight against corruption is not very easy. Although Hai Phan in the film is yet to be arrested, portraits of people like Hai Phan have been made clear so that everyone knows them. This is the positive value of the ‘Heaven’s Net.’

The repeated image in the film is chess pieces which fall one after another, the same as the domino effect - an aspiration of justice. The film is not merely an entertainment but contains aspirations for a better society.
