Army promotes traditional art (June 23, 2003)

Performance by the Central Song, Dance and Music Theatre wins gold medal.
The General Department of Politics has recently held the second Traditional Dance and Music Contest in a bid to promote the traditional art among the army’s professional art troupes and develop art performances featuring the armed forces, revolutionary war, Uncle Ho’s soldiers through resistance war as well as the present national construction and defence.

Fourteen art troupes of the army joined the contest with 51 dance and 123 music items imbued with folk culture.

The high quality of the contest reflected the development of the art of dance of the army’s professional art troupes in particular and of Vietnam in general. The contest also saw the participation of a number of young choreographers who have developed a new language for the art. Dancers to the contest were highly appreciated by experts of the Vietnam Dancers’ Association. People’s Artist Chu Thuy Quynh, who is secretary general of the Vietnam Dancers’ Association and member of the Jury, held that the contest was of national scale with high quality. This helped the sector find out a correct way for further development, she added.

Performance by the Army's Art College wins gold medal
Music items at the contest also expressed a progress in skill of young singers. Singers of the army further affirmed their strength in singing in groups. Through 59 solo performances, there appeared young talented singers who can be placed at top positions not only in the army but also in the country as a whole. The contest also saw many solo musical instrument performances of artists.

Seventeen dance performances have been presented with gold medals. They reflected the multicoloured cultural characteristics of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam.

With sound and new orientations in the way of development of traditional art, their recent performances have been warmly welcomed by Hanoians. This also brings a new hope for further promotion of such traditional art in the future.
