Cultural products and handicrafts to be introduced at Festival Hue 2004 (March 22, 2004)

Some Vietnam's traditional handicrafts.
A festival to honour cultural products and handicrafts will be held from June 11-20 within the Festival Hue 2004. It has been receiving great attention of artisans and businessmen.

The festival consists of five themes: International friends with Vietnam; Handicrafts and cultural products; An exhibition of Chinese-Nom calligraphy, paintings, art photos and precious antiques; Traditional tea culture and modern drinks, and a display of rare flowers and bonsai on an area of about 20,000 square metres.

In the first theme, the organising board reserves an area to introduce material cultural products of countries that have taken part in the festival. Foreign businesses and artisans are invited to join cultural activities during the festival. The Kansai Overseas Vietnamese Association in Japan has recently announced that they will introduce certain fine arts products of Japan and by overseas Vietnamese in Japan at the festival.

The key theme of the festival is introducing handicrafts and cultural products and services. This is the first time traditional handicrafts and cultural products and services are honoured on a large scale at Festival Hue 2004. The Vietnam Book Distribution Corporation designs to set up a stall to introduce Vietnamese books on the way to world integration.

Calligrapher Le Xuan Hoa.
At the exhibition of Chinese-Nom calligraphy, paintings, art photos and precious antiques, visitors will have the opportunity to see 400 Han-Nom calligraphic paintings on various materials by famous calligraphers, among them is 94-year-old Le Xuan Hoa.

Especially, visitors can see 60 large-sized calligraphic paintings from the book ‘Prison Diary of President Ho Chi Minh in Calligraphy’, done by a Chinese famous calligrapher Lu Yuan.

Also, the organising board will select and present prizes to five young calligraphic talents.

Hue antiques and also antiques unearthed at the former Thang Long capital city area will also be displayed.

For the theme traditional tea culture and modern drinks, organisers will restore some Vietnamese unique traditional tea drinking cultural activities. Famous high quality tea products of Vietnam as well as foreign teas will be introduced to visitors.

Display of flowers and bonsai will add more attraction to the festival.

Organisers will present Golden Globe Prize, Vietnam Star Prize and Festival Hue 2004 Quintessence to businesses and artisans winners. These prizes will be presented every two years during Festival Hue.

Other activities include music performances by domestic and foreign troupes, a Hanoi Fashion Night in Hue, etc.
