A Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) folk song and dance festival kicked off on Wednesday in Buon Ma Thuot City, with 150 participating artists. Five folk art troupes from five regional provinces will perform 60 acts including love songs, an epic poem recital dances and gong performance-representing different minority groups.
The festival, the second of its kind, encourages original works depicting the lives of ethnic minority groups in the Central Highlands, said organisers from the Viet Nam television centre in Da Nang Province.
Organisers also said they hoped to create a healthy meeting place for ethnic peoples in the region, thus preserving and promoting the folklore of the Central Highlands, as well as strengthening national unity.
The Central Highlands comprises Dac Lac, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Lam Dong and Dac Nong provinces. —VNS
