A fine art work by painter Kim Bach (July 28, 2004)

Painter Kim Bach is one of the famed artists of contemporary Vietnamese fine arts. She has won many important prizes at the national fine arts exhibitions since 1980.

Artist Kim Bach uses various materials such as oils, lacquer, silk and stone to create her art works which have always impressed viewers with a reasoning but full of feelings about beauty.

‘Vi su binh yen cua dat nuoc’ ( For the Peace of the Country) is one such painting. The large size lacquer painting with a strange layout seems to tell three stories about people with different fates: a mother waiting for her son, a wife hangs her head on the shoulders by her husband whose body part was left in the battlefield, and a widow slumped down before a headstone. The war has passed without any images of guns or bombs but the losses remain. However, the painting is a song of love by its passionate colours.

‘For the Peace of the Country’ won a prize at the National Fine Arts Exhibition in 2000, acknowledging the fine talent of artist Kim Bach, she was by then over 60 years old then.
