In recent years, art auctions have been held in Hanoi and HCM City and by Vietnam Television (VTV) for charity.
VietNamNet – The Ministry of Culture and Information’s Fine Arts and Photography Department is compiling regulations on artwork auctions, the first time this has been undertaken in Vietnam.

The regulations includes four chapters and 29 clauses, which focus on auction procedures and rules such as setting floor prices, art evaluation, and registration to enable art purchase and display.

The regulations are to be promulgated next year.

Art Auctioning is a new concept to Vietnamese people. In recent years, art auctions have been held in Hanoi and HCM City and by Vietnam Television (VTV) for charity.

According to Vi Kien Thanh, Vice President of the Fine Arts and Photography Department, there is some distance to go for Vietnam to enter the international auction market. However, the regulations would open new opportunities for entrepreneurial Vietnamese painters.
