A sculpture camp has been held for the first time in Khanh Hoa province under the Nha Trang Beach Festival 2005. This is considered a great effort of the local administration in encouraging artists’ creativity and contributing to making the coastal city more beautiful.

Mr Le Xuan Than, deputy chairman of Khanh Hoa province’s People’s Committee said “It seems that there is still something missing in the three kilometre park along the seaside. It’s likely that art works may inspire in the heart of the travellers a legend about the sea. So Khanh Hoa province’s authorities decided to hold a sculpture camp to select the best art works for display along the seaside.”

The camp, which has the theme about the sea, has drawn the participation of 21 sculptors from Hanoi and other localities.

Opened on March 1 and concluded on March 29, the time pressure made artists to work days and nights. Twenty six sculptures have been completed and according to Mr Nguyen Xuan Thanh, head of the sculpture faculty of the Hanoi Fine Arts University, “the capacity is higher than that of the last five camps held previously in Hanoi, Hue and An Giang.”

Though with the same theme - the sea, and the same material - granite, sculptural works’ the language and layout are varied. ‘Sea’s Pearl’, ‘Sea’s Legend’, ‘Sea’s Soul’, ‘Sea Bird and Sail’ etc., are the name of sculptures and also the message on the love for the sea of artists.
