Khmer cultural festival to take place in Mekong province (April 05, 2005)


The third cultural and sports festival of the Khmer ethnic minority community will take place April 6 to 9 in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh where most Khmer people in Vietnam currently reside.

The festival’s opening ceremony will be broadcasted live by Vietnam Television. According to organizers, troupes from 11 cities and provinces are expected to play folk music and perform popular traditional dances.

An exhibition on the Khmer people’s culture and cuisine will also be part of the festivities.

The festival is co-held by the Ministry of Culture and Information, Central Department of Ideology and Culture, National Assembly’s Ethnic Council and People’s Committees of Provinces in West Mekong Delta.
