Information centre on Hoi An world heritage site founded (September 10, 2005)


Hoi An ancient town.
The world heritage site of Hoi An ancient town is due to open an information centre about its heritage with the assistance of Vietnam-UNESCO office and Japan.

The centre, authorised by the peopleís committee of the town, will provide information about the heritage site for local people and tourists, organise training courses on managing, using and restoring historical and cultural relics, train personnelís for this activity and design a website about the site.

When completed, the centre will immediately restore some old temples in the town.

Hoi An is an old town built in the 17th century. It features the mixture of cultures of the West, Japan and China reflected by its intact architecture works.

Hoi An also reserves a rich intangible cultural heritage with belief activities, festivals, activities of folk culture and art and traditional craft villages.

The town was recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO in December 1999.
