Vietnam exhibition to showcase evolution of lacquer paintings (November 07, 2006)

An exhibition of lacquer paintings to be held in Hanoi during the APEC summit this month will trace the evolution of Vietnamís national art form since its origin up to modern times.

The event, organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture and Informationís department of fine arts and photography, will be the biggest of its kind with 96 paintings by 82 artists on show.

Dao Minh Tri, a member of the committee selecting the works, said the exhibition would act as a boost for the development of this fine art which has a history of over 2,000 years.

Vi Kien Thanh, deputy director of the department, said the exhibition would only accept works made using traditional paints.

Besides the exhibition, to be held from November 15 to 30, other cultural activities too are planned to be held on the sidelines of the APEC summit, including music shows and other displays.
