The gala, which forms the welcoming ceremony for the 23rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation (AIPO) that will sit in the capital city between September 8 and 13, will feature almost 500 artists from seven art troupes and theatres from around the country.
The evening was scheduled to open with 100 young women in ao dai (the Vietnamese traditional dress) inviting guests to enjoy betel and areca nut.
More than 100 members of the Viet Nam Symphony Orchestra and the Ha Noi National Conservatory were supposed to take to the stage, and perform classical pieces including The Barber of Seville by Rossini, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No.1, Schubert’s Ave Maria and Strauss’ Radezky March.
The second half of the gala was said to commence with a performance of traditional music and dance.
Performers were expected to present the drum and flag dance, and quan ho singers to perform the folk love duets.
Musicians also bring compositions for the dan bau (monochord) and Central Highlands gongs to the night.
Children from the Ba Dinh District Children’s Culture House were scheduled to perform a medley of song and dance representing the cultures of ASEAN nations to close the gala night.
Along with the gala, a 160-member choir was also suppose to also join with dancers from the Viet Nam Music and Dance Theatre to perform songs and dances from across Southeast Asia at a ceremony in Ba Dinh meeting hall.
