The Vietnam Fine Arts Association held a meeting in Hanoi on September 21 to mark its 45th founding anniversary.
From the Fine Arts Department of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association set up in 1948 in the northernmost Vietnam, artists established their own association called the Vietnam Fine Arts Association (VFAA) in 1957. From its first congress with more than 100 members, after 45 years with five congresses, the VFAA now has 1,339 members nationwide working in all specialties including painting, sculpture, decoration and graphic art.
Thirteen national fine arts exhibition and hundreds of other fine arts exhibitions have been held. The VFAA has been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order. Eighteen painters and sculptors have been presented the Ho Chi Minh Award and 32 other painters and sculptors have received the State Prize.
Also on the occasion, the State president presented the Labour Order and first class to five VFAA members and the Labour Order, third class to seven members. The prime minister presented Certificates of Commendation to two VFAA's central offices in the north and south and two individuals. The VFAA awarded 113 Medals for the Cause of the Vietnam's Fine Arts to its members and Vietnam Fine Arts Medals to units.
Prominent among those attending the celebration was Mr. Nguyen Khoa Diem, Politburo member, secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the Party's Commission for Ideology and Culture.
