Art teachers celebrate 35th birthday

Twenty six lecturers from the Hanoi School of Arts are celebrating the school's 35th anniversary with an exhibition of their work at the city's Atena Gallery, Hanoi.

The exhibition presents 36 paintings and sculptures created with lacquer, oil, water colours, pastel, composite, stone and metal.

The teachers' fine creations are exemplified by A Le Hong Yen's Dem Ram (Night of the Middle Lunar Month) and Le Hoi (The Festival), which carve out graceful curves and edges with glittering golden composites and silver aluminium.

Phan Thanh Mai, Vu Tien Dung and Nguyen Truong Linh have created works in their signature styles using the familiar mediums of lacquer, oil and stone.

The lecturers, aged between 30 and 55, have held solo and joint exhibitions in Vietnam and abroad.

The school, the country's prestigious arts training cradle, produces a large number of independent artists every year.

The school has also received the government's Labour Medal, first class for its 35 years of training.

The exhibition is on display at the Atena Gallery, No7 Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi until November 6. (VNS)
