Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to combine both culture and commerce in a week-long event to celebrate ethnic minority traditions and promote tourism and trade opportunities.
The festival opens tomorrow at Tao Dan Park, and will feature cultural performances such as percussion concert, buffalo fighting, a Cham wedding, ca tru (chamber music) and a fashion show of traditional ethnic costumes.
Culinary arts and folk games such as stilt-walking and arbalest shooting will also be on display.
Sixteen cities and provinces have registered for participation in the festival. Tribal village chiefs and craftsmen of the Thai, Tay, Nung, Muong, Dao, Ba Na, E De and Khmer ethnicities will also attend.
Around 300 stalls have registered to participate in the economic exchange section of the event, where they will have the opportunity to market traditional handicrafts and tourism ventures. (VNS)
