Ancient tombs reveal thousands of artefacts in coastal province (Nov 18, 2002)

Archaeologists have found eight ancient tombs containing more than 21,000 precious artefacts on Con Dao island, southern coastal Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

The finds, including tools made of pottery, stone, steel and bronze, are believed to date back 2,500 years.

Archaeologists believe the relics found at this 50 square metre excavation site were crafted by the Sa Huynh culture that thrived in Vietnam's southern islands about 2,200 - 2,500 years ago. (VNA)
