A colourful dream of world peace and happiness has helped two Vietnamese children win medals in a Czech international painting competition.

Six-year-old Nguyen Vu Quynh Trang and Nguyen Mai Anh, 15, were presented with their LIDICE awards by the Czech Embassy in Ha Noi on Wednesday.

Named after a village in the Czech Republic devastated during World War II, the annual competition attracts hundreds of children from countries all over the world.

The little citizens use the forum to express their wishes for a world based on peace and the protection of the natural environment.

Four other Vietnamese children aged between 6 and 15 were also presented with certificates.

Viet Nam first got involved with the event in 1974. Since then numerous Vietnamese children have been recognised by the 30-year-old competition.

This year’s winners are studying at the Ha Noi-based Children’s Palace, which often submits its students’ best works to world competitions. — VNS
