Overview of the Ho Chi Minh Square
From an initiative 21 years ago (1982) of Nghe An central province on the organisation of a public art festival named 'Singing from Sen Village' to commemorate the birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh, the State officially upgrades this year's festival into a national one. The first national festival will be held from May 17 to 19.

According to Mr Ho Huu Thoi, director of the Nghe An province's Culture and Information Department, the Politburo allowed the province to upgrade the festival this year because this year also sees the inauguration of the Uncle Ho statue and Ho Chi Minh Square in Vinh to be held on the President's birthday.

Many art and sports activities will be held on the occasion. Two feature and two documentary films will be screened during the festival. More than 20 art troupes from eleven provinces and cities with about 700 artists, painters and sculptors have registered to take part in the festival.
