Young artists brush up to SEA Games (May 26, 2003)

HA NOI — A national children’s painting competition to promote this year’s Southeast Asian Games was launched amid 2,000 Vietnamese school children in Ha Noi last Friday.

Pupils from Trung Vuong School turned up for the opening of the ‘We love the SEA Games’ contest, which has been developed to give children a better understanding of the regional competition.

As the largest biennial sports event in Southeast Asia, it will be the first time the SEA Games have been held in Viet Nam when they kick off in December.

Children aged between five and 14 can submit their paintings under one of four categories: magnanimous and fair play in sport; dreaming of becoming an athlete; the meaning of peace and union at the Games and caring for the environment.

Entries close August 19 and can be sent to the Young Pioneer Brigade in Ha Noi or Nestle in HCM City. — VNS
