Artists from the Central Puppetry Theatre have recently made a successful tour through European countries of Denmark, Sweden, France and Germany.
At the Asian Image Festival which was held from August 21 to September 19, sixteen performances of the traditional water puppetry in four cities of Vietnamese artists received a great acclaim. Copenhagen audiences even watched the performance under the rain. The Danish mass media run articles on the Vietnamese water puppetry every day during the festival. The Asian Image Festival in Denmark is a large cultural event held throughout big cities in Denmark with the participation of art troupes from China, Japan, India and Indonesia.
As part of the ‘Vietnamese Cultural Days in Sweden’ which was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the bilateral co-operation between the two countries, Vietnamese puppeteers gave 13 performances in four cities in Sweden.
The puppetry troupe was one of ten art troupes from Vietnam to join the Vietnam Face Festival held in Cahor, France. There was no room left for the three performances of Vietnamese puppetry.
Vietnamese puppeteers had seven puppetry and 42 water puppetry performances during the ‘Vietnam Cultural Week’ in Germany.
Through performance abroad, Vietnamese puppetry artists have contributed to popularising the national art and strengthening the relations between Vietnam and international friends.
