22nd National Photo Contest and exhibition in Ha Noi (December 16, 2003)


A total of 181 selected entries to the 22nd National Photo Contest, including 37 awarded photos are on show at the 22nd Artistic Photo Exhibition in Hanoi.

After one year from the contest announcement, the award ceremony of the 22nd National Photo Contest and exhibition was organised in Hanoi by the Vietnamese Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) on Tuesday. The contest was sponsored by Nikon Singapore, Jel Trading and Tan Thinh Company.

The organising board received nearly 4,000 entries of 876 photographers from 58 provinces and cities nationwide. Prizes were presented to photos in four different categories: portrait of a modern poeple, people in daily life, nature and envirionment and digital-special effects.

A Grand Prize was presented to 'Ve ban' (Returning to the hamlet) by Le Tung Khanh. Four gold medals went to 'Nguoi tho mo' (Miners) by Nguyen Ngoc, 'Tren nen soi da' (On solid ground) by Nguyen Tat Be, 'Mot thoang que huong' (A glimpse of homeland) by Pham Huynh, and 'Tham hoa' (Disaster) by Pham Quang Sang. Four silver medals, eight bronzes and 20 consolation prizes were also presented.

Nikon Singapore Executive Director Toru Iwaoka said that Vietnamese photographers, through the contest, showed their creativity, laying the groundwork for further development of Vietnam's photography in the digital era.

The National Photo Contest and Exhbition has been held every two years since 1959. This year, it took place on the 38th anniversary of VAPA (December 9). The association's membership has increased from 71 to more than 600 photographers over the past 38 years.

Vietnam will host two major international exhibitions, reported the Vietnam Exhibition Organising company (VCCI) on Tuesday.

The 'Food and Hotel Vietnam' exhibition will be organised from December 2-4, 2004 and the steel industry and industrial technology exhibition, entitled 'MTA Vietnam,' from March 9-12, 2005. Both exhibitions, the biggest to be held in Vietnam, will take place in Ho Chi City. (VNA)
