Scientists of the Vietnam Archeological Institute have recently discovered 20 archeological sites in the Play Krong river area where the Play Krong hydro electrical plant is being built.
According to archeologists, these sites represent the Kon Tum pre-historical culture (the Lung Leng culture). Of these, six sites are of the first class with large areas and thick archaeological layers and in almost intact conditions. The remainder are second and third class sites with smaller scale and scientific value.
At present, the Archeological Institute is setting up a project to ask the Ministry of Culture and Information for permission to excavate these sites. The excavation is expected to be competed by late 2005.
