Design contest for city's five entrance symbols launched in HCM City (December 18, 2003)

VietNamNet – The HCM City Department of Culture & Information has opened a competition for the design of symbols for the city’s five entrances.

The contest, which will end on April 1, 2004, has been co-organised by CID, the Architectural Association and the Fine Arts Association. Its prime motivation is to hunt out the best symbols in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Saigon’s Liberation.

Individuals or architectural groups, painters and sculptors from HCM City may enter. Students wanting to participate must have backing from their university.

Competitors must supply designs for five symbols to be positioned at major roads leading into HCM City, including Hanoi road, National Highway 13, National Highway 1, National Highway 22 and Truong Son highway.

According to the competitions organisers, the symbols are required to express the hospitality and traditional characteristics of HCM City in the new era.

Plans must be a combination of architecture and art, and be durable for 15-20 years.

The first prize is worth 50mil, second prize 30mil and third prize 20mil. Construction of the chosen designs will begin April 30, 2004.
