Another monk corpse discovered (April 06, 2004)

A 283 year-old corpse of a monk has been uncovered in Tieu pagoda in Tuong Giang commune of northern Bac Ninh province.

The corpse was found in a sitting position (about 83 cm high) with two legs crossed, and covered with a layer of paint. Internal organs remain intact but his eye orbits and arms were heavily damaged due to long existence.

It is believed of Monk Nhu Tri who reigned in the Tieu pagoda. The monk's four personal books are still kept in the pagoda.

The corpse, the third of its kind found in Vietnam, is similar to the two in Dau pagoda in Ha Tay province. It has been brought to Due Khanh pagoda for restoration. Work will be completed in three months. (VNA)
